Welcome to Melton Mowbray Baptist Church

Journeying In Faith

Journeying In Faith In the first few centuries the early church took the task of initiating people into the Christian faith very seriously, and in some places the whole process could take up to three years, culminating in baptism.

Here at Melton Mowbray Baptist Church we may not want to delay baptism that long, but we do want to take seriously the task of making disciples and spiritually forming people. Becoming a Christian is not a single decision, but a process, much akin to a journey that begins with a decision to follow Jesus, but continues day in, day out, through the seasons and the years, during the good times and the bad times.

To this end, we seek to provide an opportunity for people, wherever they are on their spiritual journey, to grow and develop through courses and activities. Some of the courses seek to explore the basics of the Christian faith, whilst others seek to help Christians grow in their faith.

Courses run each term and people can dip in and out of the modules. If you would like to know what course is running next, please contact the Church Office – .

What We Believe ...

As a Church, a group of people called together by God, we believe in one God, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We seek to be a Christian Community, recognising that God has created us for relationships, and that we need each other.

We speak of 'fellowship' and this refers to our 'life together'. We express this life as we meet together on a Sunday, and at other times during the week, but also in our on-going concern for each other. We seek to celebrate God, and we do this when we gather together for worship, bringing Him our praise, thanks and adoration for all that He is and has done.

We celebrate God for His creation, but above all for making Himself known to us through His Son, Jesus, who lived as a human being, and died so that human beings might be forgiven their sins, and come to know God as Father. We celebrate God for raising His Son from the dead, for giving us His Spirit who lives within us, for His involvement in our lives and for the wonderful future that He has for His people. Worship is not something that is limited to a set time each week, we want to make our very lives an act of worship to God. Worship is the key in which we play the whole of our lives.

We seek to learn from Jesus. As Christians, we have become disciples, literally, 'learners' of Jesus. This is a continuous process and isn't just about gaining head knowledge, but life-knowledge, as we journey in His company. We learn from Jesus through teaching on a Sunday, through small groups, through our own reading and prayer, and through our relationships together.

We seek to serve in the power of the Holy Sprit. As Christians we follow a servant God. And so it is a distinguishing mark of the Christian to serve. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we express this in all that we do in the Church, but also in all that we do as we seek to reach out to those beyond our Church with the Good News of Jesus.
